Gannett Co. on Thursday announced plans to eliminate Saturday print editions for many of its newspapers, including nine daily newspapers in Wisconsin.
The Saturday editions of the affected newspapers will cease print publication on March 12. The change will not impact the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel or The (Fond du Lac) Reporter, which had ceased Saturday publication previously.
Saturday papers will remain available as e-editions for The (Appleton) Post Crescent, Green Bay Press-Gazette, (Manitowoc) Herald Times Reporter, Oshkosh Northwestern, The Sheboygan Press and Wausau Daily Herald.

For three central Wisconsin newspapers — Marshfield News-Herald, Stevens Point Journal and (Wisconsin Rapids) Daily Tribune — the Saturday editions are being eliminated and replaced by Sunday editions. Beginning March 13, the newspapers will no longer share Central Wisconsin Sunday and will resume publishing their individual Sunday editions.
According to the announcement, the move is a response to “continued rapid shifts toward digital news consumption.” As part of the change, Gannett also is making available to subscribers e-editions from all of its USA TODAY Network publications across the country.
