Larry Gallup has been named editor of The Post-Crescent, the Appleton newspaper has announced.
A longtime veteran of the Appleton newsroom, Gallup joined The Post-Crescent in October 1992. He served as sports editor for his first decade with the newspaper and editorial page editor for the next 12 1/2 years.
He shifted in 2015 to USA TODAY NETWORK-Central Wisconsin, for which he has served as audience analyst, regional content strategist and consumer experience director. Gallup will continue as the group’s digital news director, leading its efforts to grow digital subscriptions, among other responsibilities.
Gallup takes over the editor’s role from Jim Fitzhenry, vice president of news for USA TODAY NETWORK-Central Wisconsin. Fitzhenry had filled the position since December 2018, following the departure of Ed Berthiaume.
A UW-Madison graduate, Gallup started his career as a sports reporter and copy editor for the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune in January 1987. After nearly two years there, he joined the Wisconsin State Journal in October 1988. During his four years in Madison, Gallup served as a sports copy editor, media columnist and assistant features editor.
