Tom LaVenture named Price County Review managing editor

Tom LaVenture has been named managing editor of the Price County Review, the Phillips newspaper announced Thursday.

LaVenture, a Wisconsin native who grew up in the Superior and Tomahawk areas, is a veteran of more than 20 years in the newspaper industry. Most recently, LaVenture spent two years as a staff writer for The Daily Globe in Ironwood, Mich.

He previously held reporting roles at The Jamestown (N.D.) Sun from 2015 to 2019, The Garden Island newspaper in Lihue, Hawaii, from 2011 to 2015, and The Daily Journal in International Falls, Minn., from 2008 to 2009.

LaVenture also spent several years early in his career working for the Asian American Press, a now-online-only newspaper based in St. Paul, Minn.

After serving in the U.S. Army out of high school, he studied journalism and political science at UW-Superior. He was reactivated in the Army in 1990 and served until 1993, when he returned to UW-Superior to finish his degree.

Bablick, Damrow join advertising staff

Matt Bablick and Dawn Damrow also recently joined the Price County Review, becoming the newspaper’s two newest multimedia account executives.

Bablick, a Price County native and Park Falls High School graduate, joined the Review in September. His past experience includes working for Wisconsin Conservation Corps and in the logging industry before getting involved in journalism.

Damrow, a Hawkins native, joined the Review in late October. Her past experience includes advertising sales roles in newspapers and broadcasting.

Most recently, Damrow served for three years as a sales executive for TP Printing, Inc., which publishes several weekly newspapers, including The (Abbotsford) Tribune-Phonograph. Prior to TP Printing, she worked as a sales executive for six years at Park Falls Community Broadcasting and four years as office manager and sales executive for the Zone 2 Shopper.
