Weihert departs as she prepares to start a new job in public relations with the city of Fort Atkinson. Taking over the managing editor role will be Amber Gerber, who served as editor of The (Waterloo/Marshall) Courier.

A Lake Mills native and UW-Whitewater graduate, Weihert had served as an education reporter for the Watertown Daily Times prior to joining the Leader. She has earned several WNA Foundation Better Newspaper Contest awards during her career, including first-place honors in feature writing.

Gerber, another UW-Whitewater graduate, has served as editor for The Courier for the last two years. It was her second stint with the newspaper, having held the same role from August 2007 to October 2011.

Her past experience also includes serving as a regional reporter for the Sun Prairie Star from October 2011 to August 2012 and three-plus years as assistant editor for the McFarland Thistle from September 2012 through its early 2016 merger with The (Cottage Grove/Monona) Herald-Independent. Following the merger, she continued on as a staff writer for several years until her return to The Courier.
