Microsoft is partnering with several Wisconsin newsrooms and foundations to launch the NEW News Lab in support of journalism in northeastern Wisconsin, the groups recently announced.
The collaboration includes six newsrooms — Fox Valley 365, Green Bay Press-Gazette, The (Appleton) Post-Crescent, The (Green Bay) Press Times, Wisconsin Public Radio and Wisconsin Watch. Additional partners include Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, and UW-Green Bay’s journalism department.
As part of the launch, Microsoft has given $300,000 to help establish the Northeast Wisconsin Journalism Initiative Fund. Grants are given through the fund to the participating news organizations.

The NEW News Lab will focus on in-depth local reporting projects about racism as a public health crisis, affordable housing shortages, local school funding and local judicial systems. The content will be made available beginning this month for free publication by other news organizations across the state and nation. (The stories will be posted here.)
Northeastern Wisconsin is the fifth location selected by the Microsoft Journalism Initiative.
