EAGLE RIVER – Eric Johnson has been named assistant editor of the Vilas County News-Review, the Eagle River newspaper announced Wednesday.
Johnson is the former editor and publisher of the Boulder Junction-based FYI Northwoods News, a bi-weekly newspaper he owned from 2010 to 2018. The newspaper, which ceased publication in July 2018, served western Vilas County as well as parts of Iron County and northern Michigan’s Gogebic County.

Most recently, Johnson served as business reporter for The Journal Times in Racine for the past six months. His previous experience also includes stints with The Lakeland Times in Minocqua from 2007 to 2010 and The Gazette in Jefferson, Ohio, from 2004 to 2007.
A Racine native, Johnson got his start in journalism with his high school newspaper, the Horlick Herald. He graduated from William Horlick High School in 1983 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications and journalism from Marquette University in 1987.
