Miriam Baumann, mother of former journalist Herman Baumann, dies at 93

Miriam Baumann, mother of former journalist Herman Baumann, died Sunday, April 12. She was 93.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., to Helen and Arthur Golightly, she graduated from G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) High School in her hometown in 1945. She graduated from Bucknell University in three years, working part-time as a newspaper reporter while in school.

Miriam and Herman Baumann Jr. were married on Aug. 1, 1949. They had two children together, Herman III and Heidi.

Herman Baumann III earned his journalism degree in 1975 from UW-Madison, where he worked as a reporter for The Daily Cardinal student newspaper. His professional newspaper career started at the Vilas County News-Review and Three Lakes News in Eagle River and also included an 11-year stint as editor and managing editor of Chicago Suburban Times Newspapers.

Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, funeral services for Miriam Baumann will be held at a later time.
