In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the public health crisis that has forced schools and most businesses to close, the WNA Foundation has decided to cancel the 2020 Wisconsin Civics Games competitions on April 24 and May 15. 

After evaluating plans to reschedule for later this year, we ultimately decided that canceling for 2020 and moving forward with the 2021 Civics Games was the best option for all involved. This is not a decision that we took lightly but one we felt was in the best interest of public health and in line with the “safer at home” order from Gov. Tony Evers.

We recognize that this will be disappointing for all students planning to compete, and especially for the seniors graduating later this spring. The WNAF looks forward to hosting next year’s games and finding alternative ways to keep students civically engaged through the rest of this year.

WNA Foundation board member Eve Galanter, who spearheaded the Civics Games effort, would like to thank all students, teachers, volunteers and sponsors who signed up to participate in this year’s games. 

“I know how hard the students and teachers have been working to prepare for the 2020 Games and the excitement that has been building as we neared the regionals,” Galanter said. “There could not be a more important time in Wisconsin and across the nation for our shared commitment to civic and civil engagement. Please accept my thanks and appreciation for your efforts and the determination to keep moving “Forward!”

All schools signed up for the 2020 Civics Games will be kept on the email contact list for the 2021 Games. We hope to be able to announce the 2021 dates by the end of the school year, and will open registration in the fall.
