Roberta and Rudy, who met while working at a restaurant in New York City, had seven children together and also raised two foster children at their home in Westchester County, New York. Once the children were all in school, Fischer resumed her journalism career, working as a part-time reporter for the Patent Trader weekly newspaper in Mount Kisco, N.Y.
