WAUSAU — Reporter Laura Schulte bid farewell to Wausau Daily Herald readers on Monday, as she started her new role covering government agencies for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Schulte spent nearly four years at the Daily Herald, her first professional reporting position. She moved to Wausau after graduating from Indiana University with a journalism degree.
In her new role, Schulte will report on state government agencies like the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Schulte will be based out of Madison, and her work will be featured throughout the entire USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin group.
In her farewell, Schulte also shared some of her favorite memories from her time in Wausau. They included an investigation into Granite Peak withdrawing water from the Big Rib River, stories of how the Cold War affected residents in central Wisconsin, and having some fun on the “Cocktail Beat” with stories on two of Wisconsin’s favorite drinks, Bloody Marys and Old Fashioneds.
