RIPON – Beginning with its March 5 edition, the Ripon Commonwealth Press is moving its print edition to a tabloid format, the newspaper announced Thursday.
The change will mark the first time since 1864 that the Commonwealth will not be printed in the traditional broadsheet format. It also marks the first redesign of the newspaper’s print edition since 2008.

While the timing of the change correlates with the Commonwealth’s change in ownership, editor Ian Stepleton notes that he had been itching to redesign the newspaper for some time. The new owners encouraged moving toward the redesign sooner rather than later.
Stepleton also noted the change was one they expected many readers to love. Among the feedback in a recent survey were numerous readers that said the broadsheet papers were too big.
