Readers visiting WNA member websites and social platforms from Jan. 23 to Feb. 12 were asked to identify in which 2020 elections they planned to vote. Nearly all of the 219 respondents said they planned to vote in the spring and fall general elections, which also include the presidential primary and presidential election. The full question and results can be found below:

Which 2020 elections do you plan to vote in?

  • 2020 General and Presidential Election (Nov. 3): 206 (94.1%)
  • Spring General and Presidential Primary (April 7): 202 (92.2%)
  • Spring Primary (Feb. 18): 184 (84%)
  • Fall Partisan Primary (Aug. 11): 181 (82.7%)
  • Undecided: 8 (3.7%)

While the sample size for our poll questions remains small, the results can still offer members a starting point for writing their own stories. As more members post the poll questions and engagement increases, we hope to offer more statistically significant results.

A breakdown of the data, which includes respondent demographics like age and sex, can be downloaded here. (The data provided here includes information for all verified respondents. Unverified respondents are those who either chose not to give their full name or could not be verified by Polco through local voter registration files or other verification lists.)

This poll question and results were made available through a partnership between the WNA and Polco, a national civic engagement company based in Madison, to help Wisconsin newspapers better engage readers and access enhanced data and insights.
