MIAMI – The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is seeking applications for a new initiative aimed at helping newsrooms adopt and manage digital publishing platforms, the nonprofit announced Wednesday.
News organizations can apply for the initiative through March 8. The program is open to nonprofit news organizations, newsrooms led by or serving people or color, and news organizations that serve underrepresented communities, including rural areas and news deserts.

In the initiative’s first year, the Knight Foundation will provide one-time grants of up to $20,000 to 25 publishers. Applicants will be required to explain how the grant will help their newsroom increase revenue, grow its audience and improve the user experience for readers.
