Unified Newspaper Group announces paywall for Verona, Oregon, Stoughton newspapers

OREGON – Unified Newspaper Group announced Thursday in the Oregon Observer its plan to implement a paywall on the websites for its three weekly newspapers, the Observer, Verona Press and Stoughton Courier Hub.

Unified Newspaper Group is based in Verona.

With the addition of the paywall, UNG also plans to change its approach to news coverage. Stories will now be posted online before appearing in print, additional content will be available online that does not make it into the print edition, and the e-edition of the newspapers will be available online before hitting newsstands.

Readers will need a subscription to access most content on the three websites, though some breaking news and regional stories will remain free. Online access will be included in print subscriptions, and online-only subscriptions will cost $5 per month for access to all three websites.

UNG did not provide a specific date for when the paywall will be implemented but said it would have more information on the timing and other paywall details in the next few weeks.
