Lee Enterprises to buy newspaper group from Berkshire Hathaway

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Lee Enterprises will buy 80 newspapers from Berkshire Hathaway, including The Buffalo (N.Y.) News and all BH Media Group publications, the company announced Wednesday. Billionaire Warren Buffett is president and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.

The deal includes 31 daily newspapers in 10 states, 49 paid weekly publications and 32 other print products. Other BH newspapers include the Omaha World-Herald in Nebraska, the Tulsa World in Oklahoma, and the Winston-Salem Journal in North Carolina. Lee has been managing the BH Media publications since July 2018.

With the deal, Lee Enterprises will nearly double its audience size as its portfolio of daily newspapers increases to 81.

In Wisconsin, Lee publishes more than 20 newspapers, including the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison, The (Racine) Journal Times and the La Crosse Tribune. It also owns half of Capital Newspapers, with The Capital Times Co. owning the other half.
