La Crosse Tribune, River Valley Media Group to relocate after selling building

LA CROSSE — After more than four decades at its current location, the La Crosse Tribune building was sold Monday by parent company Lee Enterprises, the newspaper announced.

The 401 N. Third St. building was the Tribune’s fourth home, dating back to 1973 when it moved from its previous spot at Fourth and Cass streets. The newspaper will move to a new location later this year, along with the rest of the River Valley Media Group.

The building was sold for $1.9 million to local developer Cliff LeClair. Future plans for the site have not yet been announced.

The relocation follows a move last year to print the Tribune at Lee Enterprises’ regional printing plant in Madison. With printing moved offsite and smaller staff sizes than in the past, the current location is larger than the Tribune needs, according to publisher Sean Burke.
