WASHINGTON ISLAND – Heidi Hodges, a veteran Door County journalist, is the new managing editor of the Washington Island Observer, the newspaper announced Thursday.

Hodges replaces Laurel Hauser, who served as managing editor since 2016.

Hauser is leaving the Observer to take a new position with Crossroads at Big Creek, a learning center in Sturgeon Bay.

Hauser and Hodges will co-edit the Observer for a few issues before Hodges takes over the full role. Hodges previously served as editor of Door County Magazine for six years and photo editor of the (Sturgeon Bay) Door County Advocate from 1987 to 2001.
