Lake Mills Leader editor Sarah Weihert wrote about the stroke earlier this month, and Dempski’s former newspaper, the Tribune Press Reporter in Glenwood City, shared another update this week.

Dempski suffered the stroke while speaking with a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department deputy, who recognized the signs and took her to the hospital in Fort Atkinson. After being stabilized at the hospital, Dempski was flown to St. Mary’s hospital in Madison.

Doctors in Madison performed emergency surgery to relieve pressure on Dempski’s brain, and she survived. Her medical condition has slowly improved since, and Dempski has been moved to a rehabilitation center in Waukesha.

Those who wish to follow Dempski’s continued progress toward recovery can do so on her CaringBridge site.
