BRODHEAD – Kim Markham, former owner of The (Brodhead) Independent-Register, has sold Register Print Center, the newspaper announced this week.

Two longtime employees, Barb Cook and Ed Mikkelson, purchased the commercial printing operation in October. Cook and Mikkelson, who have nearly 80 years of combined experience with the company, will continue to print newspapers at the Print Center.

The sale ended a nearly 90-year run in the newspaper and printing industry for the Markham family, dating back to Dan and Mary Markham purchasing The Independent-Register in 1929. They sold it to their sons, Danny and Dick, who sold it to Danny’s son, Kim, in 1996. In 2008, he sold the newspaper to Rock Valley Publishing.
