KENOSHA – Friday was the last day at the Kenosha News for three veteran journalists — Bill Guida, Jeremy Reeves and Bill Siel — who spent more than 80 years combined at the newspaper.
Guida, a reporter and columnist who covered a variety of local news for the paper, started as a part-time general assignment reporter in 1991. After a short stint at Lakeland Newspapers in Lake County, Ill., Guida returned in October 1993.
During his time at the News, Guida also served as president, executive board member and contract negotiator for the Kenosha Newspaper Guild.
Reeves, a sports reporter f0r the News, started his career in Kenosha in October 2002 after graduating from UW-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and history. He also served as a freelancer and summer intern for the paper during college.
In his farewell column, Reeves noted that he got his start in the summer of 1998, covering the Kenosha men’s city golf tournament. He thanked then-sports editor David Marran for “taking a chance on a 20-year-old kid” back then.
Reeves said that “for many reasons” the time was right to go.
Siel, a photographer and beer columnist for the newspaper, started in Kenosha in January 1983 after graduating from Michigan State University with his bachelor’s degree in journalism.
He previously had been a part-time sports writer for The Flint Journal in Michigan and staff photographer for the State News, MSU’s independent student newspaper.
