The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a criminal investigation into a chain of industrial barrel refurbishing plants in Wisconsin, according to court records filed as part of a lawsuit filed by residents living near the plant in St. Francis.
Will Kramer, the whistleblower who went public last year with concerns about what he witnessed at the plant, wrote in court documents that he has been in contact with agents from the agency’s Criminal Investigation Division since March 2017, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. He referenced the investigation in response to a subpoena filed by Greif Inc. — the barrel plant’s parent company — for documents, audio recordings and other materials Kramer has provided to government agents and the Journal Sentinel.
