WISCONSIN RAPIDS – David Van Wormer, who started his sports journalism career reporting on teammates and classmates at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, will be inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame.
Van Wormer, a 1952 graduate who passed away in 2012, served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy after high school. He later joined the National Guard, spending more than 25 years in the military.
After leaving the Navy in 1956, Van Wormer earned his journalism degree from UW-Stevens Point. He went on to serve as sports editor of the (Wisconsin Rapids) Daily Tribune for 25 years before retiring in 1995. He also spent time with WFHR radio in Wisconsin Rapids and at the Sporting News in St. Louis.
