Multimedia Channels CEO Patrick Wood discussed the detrimental effect of newsprint tariffs on community newspapers during a CNBC segment that aired on Wednesday.
“These are very small rural communities and we’re doing all the local news there — no one else is,” Wood said, referring to the communities with MMC newspapers. “And if something were to happen to us, you lose the fabric of the community. You lose the accountability for the council meetings, and the school boards and everything else.
Wood said the Green Bay-based company that publishes 21 weekly and three seasonal publications across Wisconsin has cut 10 percent of its workforce since last October because of the tariffs.
