Wisconsin reporter among 28 selected for yearlong fellowship

SHELL LAKE – Danielle Danford, a reporter for the (Frederic) Inter-County Leader and (Shell Lake) Washburn County Register, was one of 28 journalists selected for a yearlong fellowship, the newspaper announced.

The fellowship, which kicked off last month in New York, is intended to help journalists explore factors driving the increasing jail populations in their community. Fellows were selected from a wide pool of applicants across the county, based on editors’ recommendations and current or planned reporting projects.

The John Jay Center on Media, Crime and Justice is organizing the program, along with the Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues and with support from the Ford Foundation and the Catherine and John D. MacArthur Foundation.
