JANESVILLE – Rock County officials’ text messages will be archived and available as public records beginning this week, The (Janesville) Gazette reported.
Text messages will be stored on a server and kept for about seven years, much like emails sent to and from county addresses. The county installed an app on each of its 573 phones to manage the archiving process.
Some county employees, including detectives in the Bureau of Investigation, will be exempt from the archiving system. Text messages sent from phones issued to anonymous informants also will not be archived.
