Wisconsin Property Tax Burden Still Among Nation’s Highest
Figures from the U.S. Census Bureau provide perspective on Wisconsin’s property tax burden compared to other states. Despite many shifts in Wisconsin’s property tax since 1946, the state’s rank among the states remained consistently in the top 20.
Between 1960 and 1970, Wisconsin climbed from 12th among the states to 5th. Ten years later, Wisconsin had dropped to 19th, but again cracked the top 10 in 1993 (10th) and 1994 (7th). Since then, the Badger State has been among the top 10 states in 12 of 21 years (the latest Census figures are for 2015). In 2015, the state dropped to 15th.
