Donna Hansen, former Waushara Argus office manager, dies at 84

Donna Delight Hansen, who started her longtime career in newspapers at the Waushara Argus in Wautoma, died Monday, Aug. 30, in Olathe, Kan. She was 84.

A Michigan native, she moved to Wisconsin with her family as a youth and earned a degree in music education in 1958 from Wisconsin State College-Stevens Point. A few years later, she met her future husband, Ramon Hansen, publisher of the local newspaper, the Waushara Argus. He hired Donna as the paper's office manager in 1961, and kept in touch after selling the newspaper three years later. The couple was married on March 13, 1965, in Nebraska, and went on to own several newspapers together, including publications in Kansas, Arkansas and New York.

Property values up in Wisconsin amid pandemic, aided by residential value boost

Total equalized property values in Wisconsin increased 6.8% in 2021, the largest one-year increase since 2006. The increase was buoyed by residential property values, which also saw their largest increase in that span. Residential property values statewide grew 7.8% in 2021, the biggest annual percentage increase since 2006.

New poll question: Do you support workplace vaccine mandates?

A new poll question asking whether readers support vaccine requirements in the workplace is available to be used by WNA members. Following the full FDA approval of the COVID-19 vaccine, we are asking the question in light of an increasing number of employers beginning to require their workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Poll questions are available through a WNA partnership with Polco aimed at helping newspapers better engage readers and access enhanced data and insights. Robert Dye, former Journal Communications VP, dies at 74

Robert Dye, who served as an editor at the Milwaukee Sentinel before joining the communications department of its parent company, died Monday, Sept. 3. He was 74.

A Missouri native, Dye attended Baylor University and started his career in Kansas City, Mo. According to his Milwaukee Journal Sentinel obituary, Dye was hired by the Sentinel while on a layover in the city during a trip to Canada for another job interview. He went on to serve as an assignment editor, assistant city editor and news systems editor for the Sentinel. Ann Meyer has joined the EagleHerald newsroom in Marinette as a staff writer, she announced Monday in a column.

Meyer, a veteran journalist who has spent much of her career in the Chicago area, will cover the city of Menominee, Mich., for the EagleHerald, as well as Menominee County.
