Roger Mathews, who has worked at newspapers in both Wisconsin and Texas, has joined the Ripon Commonwealth Press as a reporter.
Mathews, 69, wrote in an introductory column that after he graduated from college, he joined a community weekly newspaper in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto. He went on to work for a daily newspaper and then a magazine publishing company before returning to the Dallas area to join a group of weekly newspapers. At that point, he shifted career paths, selling insurance for the next 20 years, before moving to Wisconsin and returning to newspapers.
In Wisconsin, Mathews covered Markesan for the Berlin Journal newspaper group before returning to Texas to write for the Kerrville (Texas) Daily Times, a three-times-weekly newspaper about an hour northwest of San Antonio. He now lives in Green Lake and plans to move to Ripon in the coming years.
