Visual Storytelling ( Division C) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: The Lakeland Times
Entry Title: Walleyes for Tomorrow '23 stocking recap
    Entry Credit: Heather Holmes
Judge Comment: Beautifully done. You can almost "read" the whole story without any words. Placing these descriptive photos atop of a lake back ground is a great touch.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Monroe County Herald
Entry Title: Thriller in OT; Sparta opens renovated Memorial Field
    Entry Credit: Logan Everson
Judge Comment: This is a two-fer -- Two stories being told visually. Great game photos that are played well and tell the story. Then the way the facts and figure snapshots for the new field, showing where and how much, are very informative.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Monroe County Herald
Entry Title: Brookwood's Powell ends with top 20 finish; state race map
Entry Credit: Nate Beier, Logan Everson
Judge Comment: Nice emotional photos of the runs. The standout is the race route superimposed over the runner, with markers that show his times at the mile
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: The Lakeland Times
Entry Title: Justin's Footsteps: Continental Divide Trail
    Entry Credit: Heather Holmes
Judge Comment: I love the use of large and full-page art. I'm not sure how well the visuals tell the story without the words.
  • Competition Comment: What a fun category. I made my career with words, but this category proves that pictures are worth a thousand (or more) words.
