Judge Comment: Really tight competition between first and second. The front-page photo captivates you as soon as you look at the page, and that's a winner. Great visual narration of how the fire progressed. Great job getting to the active fire and working the scene, but this submission was almost beat out because a lack of tight angle shots. Would like to see some grit and close ups of the action, water being sprayed, flicks of the flame, tired firefighters.

Entry Title: Fire at the Flock Farm

Judge Comment: Great job working the scene for a variation of shots. Especially the hill shot with the people walking on the road, can't ask for much better on that front. Would've liked to have seen some more active flames being battled for first place, but great tight shots of the scene.

Entry Title: 50-inch Musky caught during fishing trip with friends
    Entry Credit: Tyler Florczak
Judge Comment: It's somewhat unclear if this is a posed and submitted photo on first glance, but the narration in the caption/short story tells me that the reporter was on scene. A few shots of the fish being caught would go a long way here, like the fish being scooped up out of the water, or shots of the pair smiling while still wrestling with the fish. Action shots. Still, how often are you going to see a monster fish that big in person.

Judge Comment: Great effort to turn back around and hope for a shot. We've all been there and either captured a great photo, or just felt disappointment. Not many photographers will have this one in their portfolio.
