Feature Story (Non-profile) ( Division A ) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: The Cap Times
Entry Title: How hip-hop has grown in Madison in the face of opposition
    Entry Credit: Jonás Tijerino
Judge Comment: This story is beautifully written and structured with care. I no nothing about hip-hop and have never been to Madison, but at the end of the story I felt that I understood the art form, its origin story and its role in past and contemporary culture in Madison. Really nice work.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Wisconsin State Journal
Entry Title: The Ironman course had closed for the night, but this man finished anyway
    Entry Credit: Samara Kalk
Judge Comment: This nicely written story answered a lot of questions I've had about the normal person's experience in Ironman competitions. That last quote, about looking for a personal tie-breaker, was fantastic.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: The Cap Times
Entry Title: Madison’s ice boating history lives on through family and an 80-year-old boat
    Entry Credit: Ashley Rodriguez
Judge Comment: I loved this super disciplined story that both honored the story of Eden discovering their relationship to ice boating and this special craft, while also explaining the sport in a way that a nonparticipant could enjoy and feel aspirational about.
