Judge Comment: I love the variety of these projects, the different groups served, free and charged opportunities. It seems like a good cross-section of readers could be engaged and involved. The election guide is always a good idea, and hard work, but so few do it anymore. The Power Hour is a nice mix way to educate and get involved at the same time. Love the idea fest especially if it is locally sourced and productive for the community. A lot of creative work here.

    Contestant Name: Wisconsin State Journal
    Entry Title: Connecting with readers

Judge Comment: Whenever readers feel they are being heard and appreciated, you have a winner. It is wonderful to have this kind of partnership. If people need something from their newspaper, they can ask for it instead of being bothered by "the "press". This is a great way to help readers see the workings of a story, an idea, or a problem through professional eyes and words. The Focus group is another one of the time-honored ideas that gets downplayed. It is essential to invite and hear those voices. It is worth it for awareness and building respect. Thanks
