Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: The Reporter Entry Title: State baseball Entry Credit: William Glasheen Judge Comment: Getting a great photo has a lot to do with putting yourself in what will hopefully be the right place and time to capture a truly unique moment. While I certainly feel for this player, and sincerely hope that he is okay, this is definitely one of those unique moments. Well done.
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: Oshkosh Northwestern Entry Title: Pitcher’s eye Entry Credit: William Glasheen Judge Comment: A unique shot that you don't see everyday as far as softball is concerned. Plenty of photos out there of windups and/or deliveries from the pitching circle, but the timing of this one definitely sets it apart.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: The Chippewa Herald Entry Title: McDonell third baseman Keagan Winger makes a diving catch against Athens on Tuesday afternoon at Casper Park. Entry Credit: Brandon Berg Judge Comment: A big part of sports photography is capturing the "struggle." Whether it's a runner sprinting for the finish line, a jumper stretching his/her body to clear a bar, or in this case, a softball player giving it her all to make a catch. Really good shot.
Place Name: Honorable Mention Contestant Name: The Sheboygan Press Entry Title: 2022 WIAA Division 1 girls state swimming and diving championship photos Entry Credit: Gary Klein Judge Comment: Swimming photos can be difficult to get just right, but when you do they can also be some of the most interesting, and cool, shots to look at. This is a good example of getting one right. Well done.
Competition Comment: There were many top-tier photos in this competition. While one stood out above the others to me personally, I think that a strong argument could be made for 5-6 entries to take the overall top spot. With that being said, congratulations to the winner, as well as second-and-third place, and Honorable Mention.
