Environmental Reporting ( Division B) Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: The Daily Reporter
Entry Title: Kohler golf course in legal limbo after human remains found, environmental impact concerns raised
    Entry Credit: Steve Schuster
Judge Comment: Love that investigative work led to the information obtained in this report. The reader also has a good idea of what is happening and what the impact of the story is high up, which is great. Not only that, but the story is written in an interesting way that pulls the reader through to the end.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Herald Times Reporter
Entry Title: Here’s what happens to greasy pizza boxes and other items in recycling bins after they're collected in Manitowoc County
    Entry Credit: Patti Zarling
Judge Comment: The headline and lede are very accessible to the average reader. I also think that the media attempts to tell stories about what can and can't be recycled often, but those stories aren't usually accompanied with why you can't recycle certain things and what the environmental impacts are. Also great work on visuals.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: The Sheboygan Press
Entry Title: As Sheboygan sees first snowstorm of winter, here’s why drivers may see less salt being used on area roads
    Entry Credit: Alex Garner
Judge Comment: Good timely environmental topic. Is kind of a cliche topic, but Alex does a good job of bringing in a unique angle.
