    Entry Title: Liam Beran
    Entry Credit: Liam Beran
Judge Comment: So incredibly well done. This is a true reporter's reporter, doing open records reporting, asking tough questions to the most powerful people on campus, giving voice to voiceless and finding students' stories to pull it all together. Beautiful storytelling that simplifies complex topics that matter to campus communities.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: The Daily Cardinal
    Entry Title: Francesca Pica

Judge Comment: Excellent work localizing national — and even international — stories by this journalist. I enjoyed that the stories told people stories and held powerful accoutable. All things we hope journalists will do.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: The Daily Cardinal
    Entry Title: Sophia Vento
    Entry Credit: Sophia Vento
Judge Comment: Great reporting, but all entries were professional organizations, not student issues or reporting, which the competition seems to call for in the description: “journalist’s published work and their journalistic contributions to their campus, community and student newspaper.” Also, the work itself also included a lot of double bylines, which made it hard to judge what was the student's part in the work specifically. Good storytelling overall, bringing complex issues to the community in a digestible, accessible format.
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: Media Milwaukee
    Entry Title: Samantha Calderon
    Entry Credit: Samantha Calderon
Judge Comment: Good mix of local, in-depth reporting. Great job localizing international issues. Excellent writing voice.
  • Competition Comment: The Daily Cardinal is doing amazing work, as evidenced by sweeping this competition. The students there are doing the kind of work that journalists should be doing. I can't wait to see the waves these students make as journalists in the real world holding public officials accountable and telling the stories of their communities. Incredible work by the Cardinal staff across the board.
