  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Courier Sentinel
    Entry Title: Capt. Jim Anderson
    Entry Credit: Ginna Young
Judge Comment: Stopped here and took a long look at the photo. If the photographer wanted that to happen, it did. catching the sun in the background, getting the writing to be readable, and seeing someone reading the object were excellent ideas to show was was happening. Picture in focus and the light was used well. Excellent content, technical quality, and reader impact.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Ripon Commonwealth Press
Entry Title: Ripon comes to life with Dickens of a Christmas
    Entry Credit: Jonathan Bailey
Judge Comment: The photographer decided on a good angle to get the picture. Showing someone inside and seeing faces with various reactions tells a story. I like the reader impact and the ways it draws me t the picture. Good technical quality and content. It helps the reader want to read the story. Great when photographer does that.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Milton Courier
    Entry Title: Flying free
    Entry Credit: Anthony Wahl
Judge Comment: Picture goes well with the story and the photographer caught the eagle in flight as it soars away. Good location to catch the flight of the eagle. Has reader impact, technical quality is fine, and content fits well with the story. The flight picture stands out on the page and draws reader to the story.
  • Place Name: Honorable Mention
    Contestant Name: Ripon Commonwealth Press
Entry Title: Last day of school brings summer fun to Ripon's elementary schools
    Entry Credit: Jonathan Bailey
Judge Comment: Good way to see the fun the students were having. The photographer saw the fun and captured in the picture. Am confident the picture has reader impact and helped the entire page. Technical quality is there as well as the content. Good idea to show the students reaction. That helps the picture.
  • Competition Comment: Enjoyed the variety of pictures and saw interested reactions. Of particular note to me were some nice angles I saw where the photographer took time tome an unusual picture. The first two photos took some work to think out the picture and get good quality in showing the entire photo. The third shot caught an interesting angle of the flight and the HM picture had reactions showing on the kids. The picture entry stressed showing planning a picture and the winners demonstrated that. Others tried but not quite as well. Would have been pleased to have had pictures of this type in my paper.
